The surah is named after the word “ Surah Muzammil ” which means “wrapped up”, referring to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who used to wrap himself up in his cloak for long periods of night prayer. The main theme of the surah is the importance of prayer and obedience to Allah. The surah begins with a command to the Prophet to stand in prayer during the night, as it is better for him and a way to seek nearness to Allah. It also talks about how Allah will reward the obedient with forgiveness and blessing. The surah ends with a warning that those who do not obey Allah’s commands will face a painful punishment.
